Today as I walked down the street, a man with a military outfit ran out of a store to kick a black plastic bag. He was very angry and he scared me very much. I looked back at him and he looked crazy. I thought to myself this city makes people nuts.

During my last year of teaching my second hip became fully arthritic, and I waited to have it replaced, the day following my retiring. The last weeks were made sweet, when five different beautiful students, three boys and two girls, would carry my books and bags from class to class, and walk me to a taxi to take me home. Sons and daughters of my spirit, loving and devoted. I was in love with them all.

On a December evening five years ago, I paid a call on a woman that I had seen, just once, 30 years before, on my sailboat, but remembered as beautiful, sensual and talented. An artist (I am a scientist). Walking up the stairs in her East Village apartment, opening the door, seeing her again, completely changed my life. All the feeling and sensations of our first - and only- meeting returned: the smell of the salt air, the sway of the sea, and the deep blue of the New England sky reflected in her eyes. I was overwhelmed; by some miracle I could connect gain with this dream/fantasy that I had carried with me.
We married and began our lives together.

This morning I woke up blah and lackluster for no reason other than the weather and perhaps the hormones. A few hours later I handed over a copy of a book I just completed (my 3rd) to a publisher and I feel better, uplifted, complete.

I was at a work-party (with my work) and discussed for several hours with a colleague of mine. Suddenly I realised that I had fell in love. It was a "coup de fondre"
and the problem was he was many years older and hat a wife and house and many kids
he said.
So I decided to go home. I did and then I have been thinking about him for five month now. I never saw him again.
